Case Study: Polypack Shrink Wrap System Helps Alimentos Polar Bundle Flour Bags

For flour producers, secondary packaging has to keep product organized, protected and ready for efficient handling. Flexible bagged products can shift during transport through the packaging line, so consistent control is essential from infeed to discharge.

For Alimentos Polar, Polypack built an FH-24-32CL shrink wrapping system designed to package flour bags in a 5x4 bundle configuration. The system combines controlled product handling, film forming, sealing and shrink tunnel technology to create secure multipacks for end-of-line production.

The Challenge

Alimentos Polar needed a packaging solution that could handle flour bags in a 5x4 format while maintaining the shape and alignment of each bundle.

Since flour bags are flexible and dense, they require careful handling before wrapping. If the product shifts during staging or transfer, the finished pack can lose its clean shape. The system needed to guide the bags into position, form the pack pattern accurately and keep the bundle steady as it moved into the shrink wrapping process.

The Solution

Polypack supplied an FH-24-32CL shrink wrapping system engineered for Alimentos Polar's flour bag application.

The machine uses a controlled sequence to move product from the infeed conveyor through staging, transfer, film wrapping, sealing and shrink. Adjustable guides help maintain alignment as the bags enter the system, while HMI-controlled settings allow operators to adjust machine speed and fine-tune operation.

The diverter, staging clamp and transfer pusher work together to arrange the bags before wrapping. Once the 5x4 bundle is formed, the main pusher advances it through the forming head, where film is shaped around the product before sealing and shrinking.

How the Machine Works

Flour bags enter the FH-24-32CL on a VFD-controlled infeed conveyor. From there, the oscillating diverter helps organize product flow, while a clamping gate holds bags back until the correct arrangement is ready.

The staging clamp secures the grouped product, and the decompression section creates space for the transfer pusher to move the bundle cleanly. A top-down guide helps keep the pack steady during transfer.

Once in position, the main pusher moves the 5x4 bundle through the forming head. Film is fed from above and wrapped around the product to create a full enclosure. Polypack’s Film on Demand system supplies film as needed, using motorized rollers, a dancer bar assembly and film feed rollers to maintain proper film movement.

After the bundle passes through the forming head, the seal bar cuts and seals the film. The wrapped pack then travels through the shrink tunnel, where heat tightens the film around the bags. The finished multipack exits the machine ready for downstream handling.

The Result

With the Polypack FH-24-32CL, Alimentos Polar gained a shrink wrapping system built for the demands of flexible bagged products.

The system helps maintain pack alignment, reduce manual handling and create consistent 5x4 flour bag bundles. Adjustable guides, change parts and HMI-controlled settings give operators the flexibility to manage the application while keeping production moving.

For food manufacturers packaging bagged products, this project shows how the right shrink wrapping system can improve product control and produce secure, consistent multipacks.
